Weekly Conservation Officer's report

District 1 - Baudette area

Last updated: 2017-12-11

CO Ben Huener (Roseau) checked anglers on the Roseau River and black powder hunters around the area. A shoot from the road complaint was investigated.

CO Eric Benjamin (Warroad North) worked angling, small game, and ATV/snowmobile enforcement. Ice fishing activity along the south shore is starting to pick up with the majority of it being concentrated on the east side, mostly portable shelters being hauled by ATVs and snowmobiles. Keep in mind that we had open water in some areas a week ago, use good judgement and refer to the local resorts? reports prior to hitting the lake.

CO Nick Prachar (Baudette West) reports that the colder weather has brought the start of the ice fishing season on Lake of the Woods. Enforcement action was taken for failure to display registration on snowmobile, no angling license in possession, and possession of a controlled substance. ?You can just look it up, right?? is no excuse to not have your fishing license. It is illegal to not have it in possession while you are fishing.

CO Demosthenes Regas (Blackduck South) reports monitoring muzzleloader hunting, trapping, and angling activity throughout the week. Ice conditions have improved and angling activity increased on area lakes. Time was spent taking reports of incidental catch of fisher and pine marten and working on an applicant pre-employment background investigation.

CO Hannah Mishler (Baudette East) checked anglers and bobcat trapping activity. A complaint of wanton waste was handled and follow-up was completed on a big game case.
